REVIEW: Kiss and Break Up by Ella Fields

KABU RB banner.jpg

You’re not supposed to kiss your best friend.

Kiss and Break Up, an all-new angst-filled, friends to lovers New Adult romance from Ella Fields, is available now!

KissAndBreakUp_Amazon.jpg

Dashiell Thane wasn’t a nice guy.
He was an abrasive, demanding, conniving, intolerable brat.
Yet somehow, we’d been best friends our whole lives.
Until our senior year when I finally decided to dip my toes into the dating pool.
All it took was one kiss for jealousy, lies, and betrayal to sweep in and propel us heart first into dizzying, hostile depths.
You’re not supposed to kiss your best friend.
You’re definitely not supposed to kiss your best friend while you’re dating someone else.
And the absolute worst thing you could do is fall for your best friend.
Unless, of course, you want to ruin everything.

Oh the good ol’ high school days... the angst and drama. What can top that?! Oh how about falling in love with your best friend? Peggy and Dash were amazing besties. They’ve known each other since birth and they have this relationship that just always is... until it’s more. Then it’s. Bit of a mess. Their friendship might have been smooth and easy but nothing about their love is easy. It’s a mess... a cluster... a drama-induced haze of hatred and lust. Gosh, to be a senior in high school again (sigh!!).

Ella Fields is insanely creative. Her writing is intense and powerful. In Kiss and Break Up she gave us some of the best and most interesting characters. I’m hoping we get to revisit Magnolia Cove. There are quite a few secondary characters I’d like to know more about. Let me tell ya, I hated... no, I loathed high school so the thought of returning makes me ill. But this is nothing like my high school days. Oh no, this is so much worse!! Get me outta here! This is one of the reasons I poured through the pages so very quickly. Miss Fields pulls out all the stops and you don’t want to miss a word!!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Book Blurb:

Imogen

There is no way we can still love and cherish one and other.

When I married Theo Walsh, the rough, bearded townie who worked construction on my family’s summer house, I’d found my happily ever after.

That was before the fighting.
Before the jealousy.
Before the infertility.

We’ll be divorced long before death does us part.

But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more hoop I have to jump through. And I need him to do it.

Faking the marriage we once thrived in will gut me.
Especially with the secret I’m carrying.

Theo

I would have sacrificed for her until the end of time.

My job.
My home.
My happiness.

I’d given it all up to marry her. That’s how much I loved Imogen Weston, the daughter to one of the world’s richest families.

From the day we met, I’d done nothing but try to live up to the man she expected to be with. And now, I was done.

Sure, I’d complete this one final ask of hers, even if it destroyed me.

But I’ve made her promise the one thing that might save me. She swore that after she got everything she ever wanted, she wouldn’t look back.

I made my wife vow to leave me forever.

Wow, just... I’ve read every single one of Carrie Aarons books. Some have been funny, some haunting, some emotional, some tense and a bit suspenseful... they are always great stories with layered meanings. Down We’ll Come, Baby pretty much follows this same rules, great story with layered meanings, however, it was so raw and heartbreaking. It made me feel anger and, I actually felt like I disliked a character. I’ve never really felt displeasure or a character of hers before but I really didn’t like Imogen. She was so weak-minded and superficial. She seriously did not deserve Theo.

Are you wondering why I continued reading a book where I didn’t relate or like one of the main characters? I don’t feel like I had to like her when I was so gone for him. I think this book really shows us that life isn’t perfect. People aren’t perfect. We all make mistakes and honestly, not everyone is likable. One of the things I enjoy best about Mrs. Aarons books is that they always feel plausible. So yes, Imogen might come off as incredibly self-centered and self-absorbed... but can’t we all be?

Down We’ll Come, Baby is just what I have come to expect from Carrie Aarons writing. It’s deep and meaningful. She gives us stories that make us pause and ponder on the situations. This is really one of the deepest, rawest, and must angstful feeling books that Carrie Aarons has written. She really touches on so many things... love, loss, family, expectations, different lifestyles, having children... just every day obstacles. Aarons writing is gripping and flows so smoothly. The way she describes her scenes and set up the story just seemed to flow. As always, I can’t wait to see the next place Carrie Aarons will take me!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

COVER REVEAL: Bad Reputation by S.L. Scott

Bad Reputation by S.L. Scott

Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 7th
Cover Design: RBA Designs
SYNOPSIS
Being bad never felt so good.
I fell for Ally the moment I saw her. Who doesn’t like a confident, intelligent woman with curves I could spend days exploring?
Who am I kidding?
I have.
Many times.
Our story ended abruptly when she left like we weren’t meant to be. We are. So I’m calling her bluff. That’s how I ended up thousands of miles from home, standing next to a man who claims to be her fiancé.
Being good has never felt so bad.
When it comes to a successful man with an incredible body and biteable jaw aka Hutton . . . let’s just say willpower is not my strong suit.
Need more?
Try bad-boy American.
You’re welcome.
Embracing my newfound good girl status, I do the right thing and start my reign. My desires no longer matter. The monarchy, the people, and my country do. There is no place for love in this new life.
But I never expected to see him again, much less standing next to my royally appointed soon-to-be fiancé.
As if that didn’t complicate things, the man I once told I love you to is wearing a perfectly tailored tuxedo and my favorite smirk. I straighten my crown and adjust my dress, realizing this good girl never stood a chance. I’ll take the bad reputation if I get him.
~Being Bad Never Felt So Good~

Excerpt
The elevator doors slide open and she walks into the hallway ahead of me. We haven’t spoken since we walked into the hotel. This night holds more meaning than our other nights ever did, along with a whole slew of what ifs. Us, coming to an end has added weight where there used to be none.
Just before we reach the door, I stop just shy of it, and stand in her way. “Hey.”
“Hey,” she replies with an easier smile sliding into place.
“No matter what happens in there—”
She arches an eyebrow. “What’s going to happen in there?”
“I’m going to show you how much I care about you. It’s going to be rough emotionally. It’s going to be raw and real, and this time you won’t walk away unscathed. When you walk away, walk down this hall and take that elevator to leave, you’re going to know exactly what you’re leaving inside that room. This time I’m not leaving anything to chance because we may have been fate, but it’s up to us to create our destiny.”
“Hutton,” she says, her chest expanding as tears fill her eyes, “Kiss me.”
I cup her face and run the pads of my thumbs across her cheeks, wiping away her tears. Leaning my head against hers, I look deep into her eyes. “Why are you crying?”
“Because you’re too perfect to be real.”
“I’m real. I’m right here, so real.” When I kiss her, I give her everything I have because this is it. My last shot to make sure she never forgets. Her body hits the wall behind her, mine pressing against hers.
My needs begin to overtake reasoning, her little moans eliciting an intense reaction. Every time we’re together it’s better than the time before. I’m always turned on by her, muscle memory kicking in. I know her likes, her desires, her fetishes and she knows mine. Her hand dips into the top of my jeans, her warmth embracing my hardness.
My tongue finds a home with hers and I can’t stop my middle from pushing against her. “It drives me wild when you wear clothes this tight. It’s as if you’re wearing them for the whole fucking world to see.”
“I love to drive you wild.”
Leaning back, I look into her eyes, the eyes that hold so much more power over me than she’ll ever know. “Why do you torture me?”
“I like to know that I’m not the only one who gets jealous.”
“Jealous? You’re never jealous.”
Her grip tightens around my cock, causing me to suck in a sharp breath. “You think I don’t see how women look at you, how they vie for your attention? My jealousy boils inside every time another woman talks to you or touches you or brushes against you.” My breath is harsh, but begins to regulate with each stroke of her hand around me. “As long as I’m here, this is mine.”
“It’s yours long after. I’m yours long after.”
Her hand stops when she lifts up on her toes to kiss me. And as much as I like her hand wrapped around me, I like her mouth on me more.
A hint of lime still lingers and I stroke her lower lip as I kiss my way to her ear. “I’m going to make you feel so good, baby.”
