I first found Wendy Smith’s books with Coming Home. I loved it! So I’ve been watching for her books since then. I was so excited to see Doctor’s Orders land on my kindle!! Smith writes such real, relatable characters that I could see liking and see them in real life situations. We get real people with real storylines and plots but also real and true emotion. I also love a book that is a standalone but gives us glimpses of characters from previous books… I just loved catching up with Adam and Lily.

Gah… Drew is such a gem! He’s completely adorable! I don’t know how a sweet and kind man like him ended up with his girlfriend and how she treated him? He took the abuse for way too long! His brother calls to ask him to come home, he jumps at the chance to go home to Copper Creek. Hayley is Lily's midwife, as well as her friend. The sexual tension seemed to sizzle between them right away.

I love the relationships in this book (and in Coming Home). You get the close knit family feel. I really like how the closeness of the brothers is portrayed. They seem so close and I just love that camaraderie! Wendy Smith’s story is written so well. It’s so easy to read with a steady, enjoyable pace. I can’t wait to get to the other men’s books! This book feels like more of a cliffhanger than I was expecting. So I’m left panting after the next book(s). I also liked that this book was a bit more suspenseful… I love suspense and romance mixed together.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Revelry by Kandi Steiner is now LIVE!!!

Revelry by Kandi Steiner
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Revelry Cover_FINAL

Revelry, an all-new standalone from Kandi Steiner is now LIVE!!!

From the bestselling author of Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey

Wren Ballard is trying to find herself.
She never expected to be divorced at twenty-seven, but now that the court date has passed, it’s official. The paperwork is final. Her feelings on it aren’t.
Spending the summer in a small mountain town outside Seattle is exactly what she needs. The peaceful scenery is a given, the cat with the croaky meow is a surprise, but the real kicker? A broody neighbor with nice arms, a strange reputation, and absolutely no interest in her.
Anderson Black is perfectly fine being lost.
He doesn’t care about the town’s new resident — he’s too busy fighting his own demons. But when he’s brought face to face with Wren, he can see her still-fresh wounds from a mile away. What he doesn’t see coming is his need to know who put them there — or his desperation to mend them.
Sometimes getting lost is the way to find yourself. Sometimes healing only adds a new scar. And sometimes the last place you expected to be is exactly where you find home.

Excerpt:

I had just grabbed my oversized hat and slipped my sunglasses on when I spotted Anderson walking up the drive with a large trash bag slung over his shoulder. He wore a simple, black V-neck and distressed jeans, an outfit way too dark and hot for the heat. A light sheen of sweat gathered on his neck as he made his way toward my cabin, his eyes hidden behind all-black sunglasses.

"Change your mind?" I asked, not even fighting the grin on my face as I walked outside and leaned against the banister.

Anderson squinted up at me, his boots heavy as they hit each stair. "About?"

"Tubing?" I asked. That was why he was here, right?

"Oh." He shook his head as he hit the top stair, shrugging the bag off his shoulders to hold it by the neck in one fist. "No, I have somewhere to be..." His voice trailed off, and even through the tinted shades of his glasses I felt his eyes on my chest. I'd strapped on my favorite boho print bathing suit and paired it with a dainty gold chain that wrapped around my neck once before dipping between my chest and crossing over my ribs.

He sniffed, holding the bag out toward me. "I just came to drop these off. My clothes. Well, the ones that could probably use a little TLC."

My eyes lit up and I reached for the bag, but Anderson snatched it back, brows shooting up into his forehead.

"No frills, Wren."

I threw my hands up in surrender. "I promise."

He smirked, just slightly, and handed the bag over, tucking his hands in his front pockets.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?" I asked, peering into the bag at my project before setting it just inside the cabin and locking the door behind me.

"I can't," he said, lips pressed together. He was tense, the muscles on his forearms tight as he glanced around at pretty much everything but me.

I opened my mouth to ask why but was cut off by the sound of a truck flying into my drive, tires sliding against the gravel.

Tucker was in the driver's seat with Davie in the passenger. Sarah and Yvette sat in the back, laughing with their hands up as the truck skidded to a stop. They were both sprawled out on a pile of tubes, wearing bathing suit tops and tiny shorts.

All of their faces froze when they saw Anderson.

"Hey, you ready, Wren?" Tucker asked warily, his eyes moving from where Anderson stood in front of me, to me, and back again.

"Yeah, one sec!" I called back.

I turned to Anderson, but his eyes were hard on Tucker, jaw ticking under his skin. When he faced me once more, an anchor fell from my throat into the pit of my stomach, immobilizing me completely. Because even though I 'd tried to convince myself I was wrong, I recognized the look in his eyes.

Possession.

And when his nose flared and he took one big step toward me, our chests brushing, his hand reaching out to rest almost imperceptibly on my hip, the anchor in my stomach exploded into flames, burning a desire so fierce I inhaled a toxic breath and didn't let it go.

"Be careful, okay?" His eyes locked on mine just before he leaned in and swiftly kissed my cheek.

He turned on his heel and jogged down the stairs and past the truck. Sarah called his name, but he didn't acknowledge her, just kept his gaze forward until he'd disappeared from view.

And then everyone looked at me.

What a beautiful book Kandi Steiner has given us! I think a lot of people will be able to relate to Wren and the need to find oneself. There are so many things that can take us to our knees that stepping away and being able to reevaluate our life is a remarkable ability. What better way to find yourself than to do away to a cabin in a small town where you know no one.

Steiner’s writing is beautiful. This book flows so easily. The characters were awesome and seriously relatable! I adored that darn cat!! Sometimes even the smallest of things can be the most meaningful. Anderson was a great character too. You just couldn’t help but feel for the guy!! He seemed so completely broken… I wanted to give him a hug! Poor guy! This is a perfect book to show you how much we place things on our shoulders for blame… not everything NEEDS to be blamed.

This was a perfect book to get lost in as it was so meaningful, yet it was HOT!!! I just loved how this book was like walking… or going home… does that make sense? The couple was so perfect for each other. I think it really showed us that we shouldn’t just “make due” with good enough and strive for amazing every single day!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

My Review

Second chance romances are some of my favorite books. Although, Adam and Lily have a tough spot to come back from. They were each other’s first everything. You know, the high school sweethearts who are so in love they MUST get married as soon as they can. Life is perfect, until Lily stands Adam up. Lily also seems to skip town and not look back, leaving a broken Adam behind. Adam heads out to hide from the pain and hurt. He joins the US and stays for over 10 years. He returns home after word of his mother’s illness reaches him.

Over the years, Adam has been fed some lines by a very trustworthy source. He believes Lily has moved on with another local boy. Once he returns though, he sees how wrong everything is. He’s been fed bullsh*t for years and believed every work. Lily has also had the same thrown at her all while having something very precious of Adams.

Adam and Lily can’t seem to stay away from each other after a, literal, run in. Lily sees a man who has grown into something gorgeous. While Adam sees a completely different Lily. She’s tired and too thin.

This book is their journey into forgiveness and learning the truth about their past and people in their lives. I was so super excited to see that Copper Creek is going to be a new series. I loved this group of guys and can’t wait to see them settle down and find love. I also love reading series because you usually get to catch up with previous characters so I’m hoping to see updates on Lily and Adam.

There’s a lot going on in this book. You get sucked in and so surprised with who does what.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
