Holy slow burn! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that teased me so much! I have a few AM Hargrove stories on my kindle but haven’t cracked them open until this beauty. I was pleasantly surprised with her writing technique and the story itself. She gave us real and likable characters. People I could totally see hanging with! I love stories where people have completely given up and love... it’s even better if they’re bitter! From Ashes to Flames gave us that plus betrayal and learning how to move on and up.

Now, it’s really hard to explain why I removed a star. There weren’t any technical problems that I saw or can recall. The characters were enjoyable... I either liked them or wanted to smack them but a range of emotions is great... heck it makes a story excel!! I thought the story was great and the plot didn’t lag. It was more that I didn’t feel consumed... I don’t mean for that to sound totally hokey. I try really hard to leave those 5 star ratings for OH MY LORD, she/he just blew my mind clear off. I can’t read or get into another book for days. That’s my 5 star. So while this is a great book and I totally recommend it, it just didn’t stop me in my tracks. However, I seriously plan to check out the massive back log of books on her shelf!!

Who is she? My eyes narrow as I take in the red haired nymph on the dance

Her hands smooth down the material on the back of her dress before she
sits. She awkwardly tugs down the bottom to provide as much modesty as
possible, but the short length leaves a good portion of her long sleek legs
exposed. I can tell she’s uncomfortable and I smile at her modesty. There’s
a sense of innocence about her I find extremely attractive.

Round after round of drinks are ordered by her friends as I stand here,
studying her every move, slowly sipping a beer. Watching her tongue make a
slow trek around the rim of her margarita glass, licking up all traces of
salt has me mesmerized.

She throws her head back laughing and her long red hair tumbles past her
shoulders.

What would her hair feel like trailing over my bare chest if she bent down

I need to know who this precious angel is. Seeing her tonight isn’t a

I wish I would have realized this was part of a series. Even though it can be read as a standalone, like I did, it was apparent I was missing some info from the books Quake, Quiver, Tied, and Delve as there are some secondhand characters that are in this book. This is what happens when I jump in with two feet and don’t research what I read first… I dislike (immensely) reading out of order!!

However, Zach is one dirty talking alpha!! There were some smoking hot scenes that fogged my glasses! Zach has some deep dark secrets and is portrayed as a bad guy or the one with a chip on his shoulder. It was wonderful to see this naughty guy fall in love and redeem himself.

I loved Lana… she’d have to be special to land this man. Lana also has scars from a past of secrets. I liked watching it all unravel. This was a super interestingly, hot book… again, I feel I cheated myself by not reading all the books in the series.
