I LOVE this cover… let’s all just sit here and appreciate the gorgeousness that is this cover… sigh! I’ll be honest, and I’ve said this before. I don’t like, generally, covers with just some “hot” guy standing there with abs that may or may not be real. I’m just not into it. Yeah, they look nice but, eh, it’s what everyone does so how is that special? However, this cover just oozes with southern charm and you get that feel, that vibe immediately when you look at this book. I think I’m going to have to have the paperback on my shelf… that is how much I adore the outside AND the words inside.

Celia Aaron gave us a slower burn in the romance section on the book. However, the mystery and intrigue in this story was continuously rolling and it pulled me in. I instantly fell for the uptight Benton. Arabella was fantastic and closed off and slightly aloof as well. I loved them slowly falling for each other. This book doesn’t have as much heat as most of the previous ones have; we’re way over 50% in by the time we get any dirty deeds happening. That didn’t matter to me. I don’t need the sex scenes at all. This story was perfection! She wove an amazing, mysterious tale that gets you sucked in not matter what! I’m completely tickled that she writes fantastically, creepy thriller/suspense books… this was an above par whodunit type book! I’m eagerly awaiting more from Celia Aaron!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

AP new - synopsis.jpg
I dig. It’s what I do. I’ll literally use a shovel to answer a question. Some answers, though, have been buried too deep for too long. But I’ll find those, too. And I know where to dig—the Blackwood Estate on the edge of the Mississippi Delta. Garrett Blackwood is the only thing standing between me and the truth. A broken man—one with desires that dance in the darkest part of my soul—he’s either my savior or my enemy. I’ll dig until I find all his secrets. Then I’ll run so he never finds mine. The only problem? He likes it when I run.

Author’s Note: This is a mystery/suspense romance with violence and explicit sex.
Trigger warning.

“You can’t keep me here,” I said with far more bravado than I felt. “I refuse to be held prisoner by a psycho in need of a shower and shave.”

He laughed, this time the sound rich and sultry. It reverberated inside my chest. Something about it reminded me of the forest, the way the sunrise warmed it but couldn’t quite reach its dark heart.

“You don’t like my beard?” He sat next to me, much closer this time.

My pulse ratcheted up, and I took in a quick breath.

“Well?” He grinned and took my wrist.

I tried to pull it away, but his grip was like an iron shackle. He eased the back of my hand down his cheek. “Not so bad, is it?”

It wasn’t. Not exactly soft, it felt thick and masculine. Rich. “What are you doing?” I leaned back until I pressed up against the headboard.

He moved closer, his woodsy scent a mix of smoke and soap. Maybe he didn’t need a shower after all. I didn’t turn away, not even when his lips were only inches from mine.

“I just wanted to see.” His eyes flickered to my lips.

“You’re about to see what a vicious head butt looks like.” My rapid pulse infected my voice, making it quaver.

“Yeah?” He squeezed my wrist harder. “I don’t believe you.”

“Fuck you.” I stared into his eyes, searching the stormy irises for some way to solve the enigma of Garrett Blackwood.

He smirked again, just the slightest quirk of his lips, then leaned back and released my wrist. The air cooled between us, and goose bumps rose along my bare arms.

MY REVIEW

First, let's talk about that cover! It's amazing! I'm a smidgen picky when it comes to covers since I do graphic design, I feel a cover is just as important as what's inside! This cover didn't disappoint. Who is that guy anyway? I don't normally go for beards but he looks very good! Plus the use of color and fading… this cover is fab! Without being over the top! Mad applause to Aaron's designer!!

Celia Aaron’s is so descriptive that you can’t help but see and feel everything she describes. The beginning of Blackwood is wonderful! Hell, the whole book was amazing but the beginning really has to lay a lot of ground work for the rest of the book.

There was so much sexual tension in this book. I LOVED low this hard, tough guy finally opened up. He was just adorable once he got past himself.

There was so much back and forth, and just… uncertainty. I didn't know what to believe there for a few chapters Aaron seriously threw me for a loop. I so did not see that ending coming. I love romantic suspense books and this was such a fan-freaking-tastic read.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
