REVIEW TOUR: Parental Guidance by Avery Flynn

PG - BT banner.jpg

"A fantastically fun, HOT love story."
- Kendall Ryan, New York Times bestselling author

Parental Guidance, an all-new, sexy and laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Avery Flynn, is available now!

ParentalGuidance_1600

All I want is to play hockey on the Ice Knights, instead, I’m in a viral video for all the wrong reasons and my mom—yes, my mom—has taken over my dating apps. Then, when I think it can’t get any worse, the fates deliver Zara Ambrose, a five-feet-nothing redhead with more freckles than inches and who’d rather be anywhere other than on a date with me.

Now a bet with her friends and my PR nightmare have us both stuck in this go-on-five-dates-with-the-same-person hell situation. But if we band together, we can get the whole thing over with and go on with our lives. It’s perfect! No feelings. No future. No fuc— *ahem* fun. No naked fun.

What could go wrong? Nothing—as long as I remember the rules. Don’t notice the way she looks in a dress. Don’t react when she does that little shivery sigh thing whenever we touch. Don’t think about the fact that she’s never had a toe-curling orgasm that wasn’t self-delivered and just how badly I want to change that.

Five dates—that’s it—and then we go our separate ways. At least, that was the plan.

Haha!! Totally smitten with this sweet and adorably hilarious romantic comedy! Over the last year or so I have read at least four Avery Flynn books and I'm just so happy to have found an author this just plan tickles me pink!! I love the storyline of a hockey player being disciplined and the punishment is his mom taking over his dating life... or at least with an app he doesn't really want to do... I mean, don’t you just FEEL the hilarity coming for ya?!

In my odd way of reading between the lines, I like the deeper meaning that it isn't ok to just let things happen around you. We should always stand up for what's right. But more so, hockey players should be defending their teammates even if it's from a verbal assault behind someone's bad. Anyway, Zara and Caleb are fabulous together!! I laughed throughout their troubled road while getting where they need to be. I sure hope Avery Flynn keeps these quick-witted and fun characters and storylines coming! I can't seem to get enough of them!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Excerpt:

“So why are you on Bramble?”

She took another small bite from her roll before answering. “My best friend is blackmailing me, and my dad wants a SAG card.”

That was definitely not the answer he’d been expecting. “And I thought my reasoning was twisted.”

“I’m sure it all makes sense in Gemma’s head,” Zara said. “She thinks I work too much and need to loosen up. She’ll let me be her plus-one to go meet a collector if I do the Bramble five dates thing. And my dad? Well, let’s just say he’s never met an unlikely plan he didn’t think he could pull off.”

All the possibilities this created sped around inside his head until one broke free like a perfect fast break late in the third period when the game was on the line. All he had to do was put the biscuit in the net.

“So neither of us really wants to be here,” he said. “We’re each other’s solution to getting back to our regular lives as soon as possible.”

It was fucking perfect. Petrov’s job with the team would be safe for another season—well, as safe as he could be, considering he didn’t have a no-trade deal in his contract.

Zara, though, didn’t seem to be seeing the genius of it, going by the suspicious look she gave him as she took another bite of her roll. Instead of giving him a straight-up no, though, she started eating. The words—okay, begging pleas—were bubbling up inside him but for once, he kept it in lockdown. He wasn’t about to rush this play, no matter how it had every nerve in his body jinglejangling.

Finally, she used her napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth, straightened her spine, and looked him dead in the eye. “We’d have to have ground rules.”

“Sure. Whatever you want.” Ice Knights season tickets? He’d make that happen. A photo op with her dad’s favorite player? Done. Whatever it took, he’d do it.

“This isn’t a real or fake relationship, it’s a temporary alliance,” she said without an ounce of humor in her tone. “I’m not pretending to be your girlfriend or the random chick you’re banging this week.”

“Agreed.” All of that sounded like it would cause more problems than it would solve anyway. “I’ve got a condition. Dressing up is not required. I’m not putting on a suit.”

The best thing about the off-season was not having to strangle himself with a tie multiple times a week just for a bus ride to the rink or a plane trip to another city. Coach Peppers was old-fashioned about doing things the original way.

“Fine.” Zara held up three fingers. “The third stipulation is that I’m not putting on a good attitude. If it’s been a crappy day, I don’t have to pretend to be a manic pixie dream girl.”

He snorted. “No one who’s met you would believe that. You’re a little salty.” That was putting it mildly based on her attitude when she showed up for their date.

“I have my reasons.” She added another finger, so she was holding up four. “Oh, and no making love. Sex?” She paused and looked him over quickly. “Maybe. Emotional, heartfelt, staring-each-other-in-the-eyes making love? Not gonna happen. No offense, but you’re not my type.”

What the hell? Not her type? He was a professional athlete making millions. He’d been led to believe he was everyone’s type.

“Not a problem, since I don’t think we could see eye to eye while having sex unless you magically grew a foot,” he said.

“You’re not into being creative?” Zara rolled her eyes. “I guess that’s expected for someone who has probably had women throwing themselves at him for years. You haven’t ever had to work for it.”

Caleb had no idea what to say to that. He’d been punched square in the face by the most feared goons in hockey and it hadn’t knocked him as senseless as this little five-foot-nothing of a snarky woman had done with a few choice words.

“I have one more rule,” she said, reaching for another roll. “Five dates and we’re done. Period. Do we have a deal?”

About Avery

USA Today bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staff knew her by name.

Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Each step down that aisle takes her farther away from me and brings her closer to him, forcing me to face the truth: I’ve fallen in love with someone who can’t be mine. If she’d just turn around, maybe she’d realize I love her more than he ever could.

I won’t ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her.

Oh my lanta!! RC Boldt killed it y'all!! I am completely smitten with Hollis. His insecurities have just touched my heart. Magnolia is his best friend and always has been. They are more than just friends though; they are the other halves to the other. They both know it. They are both too scared and dance around it. Hollis is there for Magnolia unlike anyone has ever been there for her. He loves her and she knows he's always beside her.

I loved the friendship between two people from vastly different lifestyles. I loved that these two didn't let other relationships pull them apart especially during those high school days when so many conflicting emotions come at us. I adored how they both just knew what the other needed and did it. RC Boldt layered in some secrets and lies with a bitter mom and a snobby, upper class mom that thinks she's too good for those lowly blue collar families. Her writing was superb... it's hard to believe some might have been dictated to a husband or a machine. This story was delicious and has some of the sexiest and HOTTEST scenes I have ever read... like EVER. READ!!! I legit wiggled in my seat reading some parts of this book.

I loved the way we started at present day and went all through their lives and friendship. We got to see all the important milestones and a few major heartbreaks. We got to see them fight and make up... but they were always there for each other. Really, RC Boldt was brilliant in keeping my attached to this story. I was so invested after just that first chapter. The writing was vivid and clear, fun and angsty... some of her best writing yet!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Excerpt:

“Hollis?”

I startle at the male voice calling my name. When I turn, I find a guy about my height wearing a button-down shirt beneath a sport coat and a pair of pressed slacks. He regards me with a mixture of surprise and recognition while I have no idea who the hell he is. He steps closer with a smile.

“Sorry to catch you off guard,” he apologizes and holds out his hand to me. “Grant Stevenson.”

I shake his hand warily. “Hollis Barnes.” I pause before adding, “But somehow, you already knew that.”

He grins, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t detect any douchebag vibes. “I recognized you from one of the photos Magnolia has in her room of the two of you.”

It takes all my control to suppress the jolt that zigzags through me at his words. She still keeps a photo of us?

His eyes crinkle at the corners, and he lifts his chin to gesture to me. “Although I have to be honest, the ink and beard initially threw me off.”

A surprised laugh escapes me, and I slide my hands into my pockets.

Grant steps closer and glances around before lowering his voice. “I’m actually glad you’re here. I know you and Magnolia haven’t seen one another in a while, but you’re her oldest friend…”

Oldest friend. Not best friend. I don’t miss the phrasing. Although I don’t feel it’s intentional, it cuts deep just the same.

“I’m nervous as hell, and I’m hopin’ you can tell me if she’d like this.”

It takes me a moment to realize what he’s pulled out of his pocket.

A velvet ring box and a packet of Pop Rocks.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I resist the urge to rub at the center of my chest, where searing pain radiates.

He flicks open the box to reveal a ring with a large diamond that’s fancy as hell. Something Mrs. Barton would love and deem appropriate. But Magnolia? Hell no.

“Her mom helped me pick it out.”

Exactly.

“And I know she loves Pop Rocks since she always has a pack.”

Not the strawberry flavor.

But he’s trying. I can see the nervousness in his expression. The hope. The excitement.

I can’t crush this guy. He’s exactly what her parents have always wanted for her. The kind of guy who doesn’t get his hands dirty. The one with money and connections.

The one who can give her the future her parents expect her to have. The one who won’t come home with rough hands, callused to hell and back from working on a project that’s for a high-end client or due to be auctioned off to a car collector with more money than they know what to do with.

The man who wears button-downs like they’re second skin. Designer clothes.

So caught up in my thoughts, I don’t immediately realize that he’s pocketed the items and is gazing in another direction. When I turn and follow his focus, catching sight of her weaving through the crowd, I take advantage of the moment and let my eyes drink her in. She’s…so goddamn beautiful.

Her long blond hair spills down her back, and even beneath the shapeless graduation gown, her sleek, tanned legs peek out from the bottom hem, her heels accentuating her toned calf muscles.

When she catches sight of Grant, her entire face lights up, and…goddammit.

I can’t do this. This was a fucking mistake. It’s like someone’s performing open heart surgery and just cracked my chest open without anesthesia.

Book Blurb:

Presley McDaniel lives her life from moment to moment.

Making permanent decisions means obligation, and that would force her to stop being the family disappointment. Waitress, fitness instructor, dog walker … you name the hourly job and she’s probably held the position.

But when her grandmother can no longer run her book shop in Fawn Hill, a town so small it barely has its own zip code, Presley steps up to help.

The move from bustling city to green pastures may be exactly what she needs to sort out her life. But she didn’t ask for that happy ending to include a gorgeous veterinarian with an all-American smile and a penchant for snuggling puppies. The good doctor is reliable, responsible, and just the kind of man Presley has always avoided.

Love and commitment are predictable.

So why, the moment she lays eyes on him, are they all she wants?

Keaton Nash has never questioned his steady path.

His brothers may tease him about settling into his father’s passed-down role of small town veterinarian, but Keaton has never minded his rural roots. And after tragedy struck two years ago, he has a duty as the eldest Nash man to look after his family.

What he doesn’t need is the sexy, flighty stranger who shows up in town and gets his broken heart beating again. Presley McDaniel is a distraction, a red-headed temptation that is the definition of a bad idea.

He’s barely recovered from the love who left him to chase bigger dreams, and this woman is bound to do the same.

Except for the first time ever, he wants to abandon stability.

She makes him want to be reckless.

Carrie Aarons captures the complete essence of small town living in the first chapter.
From there it just gets better and better. I had a bit of a time keeping track of all the
Nash men and who was who, who did what. However, the more the book went on the
more Carrie gave them all really personalized personalities and the tiniest hints at
their demons. I adored Presley. I found her charming and sweet with this surprising
humorous side to her. While I might have had an instant attraction to them both,
Presley fought her attraction a bit. But the ever present and dashing vet, Keaton,
was persistent. Although, I do think sibling rivalry did add a bit of a kick to his
booty for the more aggressive stance he tried. So what I’m saying is these two
characters are great! I loved the secondary characters nearly as much!
Presley’s grandmother is quite the character! I enjoy her banter.

So it’s no secret, I love me some Carrie Aarons novels.
She has this fresh feel to all her books.
She always has this unique spin on every story she creates.
Book after book she pulls me in with her constant ability to be different.
Aarons writes her stories with such creativity and a real singularity
to every character. I was totally smitten with Chance and that opening scene!!
After getting a small bite of every Nash man, I am fully invested in this family
and cannot wait to see where Carrie Aarons takes he rest of these stories.

One of my favorite things about the way Carrie Aarons writes is the
variety in her stories. No genre or book is ever the same for her.
Fleeting has this really slow build up... it starts so easy with a nice southern charm to it.
Don’t let it lull you in... Fleeting packs a whole lotta punch!!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion.
I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise,
and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

BLOG TOUR: Irresistible by Melanie Harlow

Irresistible - BT Banner.jpg

“Sexy, heartfelt--did I mention sexy? With the perfect touch of the forbidden, Melanie Harlow has outdone herself with single dad Mack and Frannie’s story!”
-- Ilsa Madden-Mills, Wall Street Journal bestselling author

Irresistible, an all-new fun and swoony standalone from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is available now!

Irresistible FOR WEB.jpg

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.

Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?

(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)

Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.

I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.

But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.

Even if it means giving her up.

Melanie Harlow you slay me!! You as the author and a single dad story?!? Stick a fork in me!! I’m done! I’ve developed a serious obsession with single father stores over the last year. Now give me a dad with a daughter and I will just swoon all day but Melanie Harlow gave us a dad with THREE daughters!! I swooned so hard I went comatose (slight exaggeration). I love the sweetness and the struggle... it shoots love darts right at my crotch!! Melanie Harlow tells some of the sweetest, the most charming stories. It’s like being wrapped up in a warm hug. It’s cozy and happy and I never want to leave the content feeling I get when I’m deep in a Harlow book with a cup of coffee. Night is made!!

Frannie and Declan/Mack are both amazing characters! I normally have my favorite people but I just adored these two so much. This is one of my top favorite Melanie Harlow books ever... I know it’s going to be a top read! Harlow gives us a beautiful story without all the fuss and distractions we’re used to. This has everything you want but the unwanted added drama or angst that adds nothing but a higher word count... it’s a gorgeously beautiful story that will fill your heart and mind with smiles and complete adoration.

I cannot recommend Irresistible more! It gives you this overall happy feeling that not all books can do. I found myself smiling through so many scenes. I loved seeing Mack with his daughters and the bonds he shares with each of them. There’s something about a book that can keep you entertained with only amazing characters that are relatable and likable and a storyline that feels good with light drama and a little touch of the naughty and high on the romance and heat level!!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Excerpt:

I was holding my breath.

I wasn’t even sure why, but it was something about the way Mack was looking at me. And the tension in his body—the taut muscles in his neck. The grip of his fingers on the edge of the counter. The set of his jaw. It gave the impression of restraint. Like he was holding himself back.

Something unfamiliar hummed in the air between us. I could feel it—he wanted me the way I wanted him.

No wonder I couldn’t breathe.

Then he cleared his throat and turned away from me, cutting off the current. “Sure. Everybody needs to make mistakes now and then.”

I’d forgotten I’d even asked the question.

He turned the sink on, rinsed his dishes, and placed them in the dishwasher. I stood there staring at his muscular back, at the width of his shoulders, at the snug fit of his jeans on his butt. If I were his and he were mine, I’d go over and wrap my arms around his waist, press my cheek to his back. Then he’d turn around, winding his arms around me. He’d lower his lips to mine, and—

“I should get you home,” he said, interrupting my fantasy. “Want to grab your coat?”

“Sure.” But I didn’t really want to leave. I wanted to stay in this warm, chaotic house with him and the girls. Pretend I belonged here. Pretend I belonged to him.
