I go into most of my books without full knowledge of what they are about or really any genres. For me, it works… I don’t like knowing anything but what I’ve read briefly when I signed up to read and review book. I guess I missed that this was a YA horror. It wouldn’t have deterred me though, going back and rereading the synopsis… I like the sounds of the Ultimate Sacrifice. It’s the YA part that would have made me a bit wishy washy. However, I’m glad that I read this book. I enjoyed it a lot. I feel like it has a great possibility of being a fantastic book! I enjoyed this story as a whole but also as a whole, it also had its problems.

I LOVED the ending; seriously I was shocked by the ending. I was completely blindsided by the ending of the Ultimate Sacrifice. SE Green told a great story. It had all the elements that you want in a horror. The suspense and mystery were perfect! The characters were interesting and likeable. There might have been a few times I wanted to smack Vickie in the back of the head, but honestly, that’s a common occurrence for me while I’m reading… perhaps I’m slightly abusive ;)  I also found myself enthralled in this book, absorbed perhaps, it was fascinating. Green truly creates the… I can stop reading at any time, right after I finish the next chapter… feeling. I just kept reading.

So I’m giving this book 3.5 stars because I really think if SE Green was to go back to this book and add in some finer details this book could be 5 stars! All the bare bones are here and even the organs and some meat… but what we’re missing is the muscles and tendons that connect everything and gives it that finer detail and use. It’s the development that’s lacking. I get why the book is rushed and it works because you want to rush through it as well. Wade was extremely underdeveloped and I his character could have added to this story. For how tight the family was I feel like they weren’t developed enough, some situations were just odd. We need to know more about the family. It’s so hard to explain what I feel like could have been developed more without giving stuff away. Also, the sleep walking thing should have been mentioned throughout and so much could have been added here. Even having a “bad guy” POV that is vague would have added.

Honestly, I really liked this book. I really hope the author returns and develops it a bit more. This book could be in top reads everywhere. The writing is good. The story is great. The characters are interesting. Just develop more and I know this book can do things!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
