Some stories are a fairytale...but this isn't one.
Caelan Gregory’s life fell apart the night he went home and opened the door to find his whole family murdered. Since then, his life has held no meaning. He’s angry. He’s bitter. He’s barely human anymore. There’s nothing left to remind him of the straight A student, and football quarterback he once was…but he wasn’t a good person then, and he’s certainly not a good person now. He’s retreated into a world where all that exists is numbness and his passion for painting.
When Sutton Hale moves into the apartment across the hall from Caelan she’s not prepared for her reaction to him. Something in his broken blue eyes calls to her—after all she’s always had an irrational need to fix everything.
But Caelan doesn’t do relationships or feelings. He does drugs and alcohol. However, he can’t ignore his desire to get to know the raven-haired woman across the hall.
Two broken souls trying to mend one another.
But not everything can be fixed.
In the end, Caelan and Sutton will have to learn that there is beauty in the ashes.
Author Bio
Hi. I’m Micalea. Ma-call-e-uh. Weird name, I know. My mom must’ve known I was going to be odd even in the womb. I’ve written a lot of books. Like a lot. Don’t ask me how many, I don’t remember at this point. I have an unhealthy addiction to Diet Coke but I can’t seem to break the habit. I listen to way too much music and hedgehogs have taken over my life. Crazy is the word that best sums up my life, but it’s the good kind of crazy and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

My Review
Gahhh….
Could this book be any harder to review/rate? This book was so friggin
fantastic but I hated it at the same time! See… though book here to review! Smeltzer
took a risk like I’ve honestly NEVER seen an author take before. She made this
book credible and gave it the most real storyline ever. This book is gritty,
honest, and a real story about life, love, living, healing, and learning.
This is NOT
an easy book or an easy read. Most romance readers are going to love most of
this book but they ending is going to make you want to toss something across
the room! To me, that’s the signs of a good book. Smeltzer’s job as an author
is to give us a story that makes us feel, even better if we can learn and grow
personally as well. I feel like Beauty in the Ashes does just that. You aren’t
going to get this happily ever after you want but you get a real story. Life
isn’t perfect and I think we get that in Smeltzer’s book!
Beauty in
the Ashes gives us a glimpse into love, not as a fairytale, but as a real life
experience that needs work and honesty. Sometimes things don’t turn out as we
want them too or how we had planned for them to happen. But, just like real
life, if we hang in there and are open, we can grow and change, and learn, love
can save us. If you read initial reviews you’ll see readers aren’t happy with
the ending. I think the warning is enough to tell me this is a different story.
Smeltzer says: “Some stories are a fairytale...but this isn't one.”
She gives us honesty, instead of predictability; the truth rather than a
fairytale.
I
received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
