Can we all just bask in the awe if Michel Marcello for a while?!?! This man! People underestimate him, time and time again throughout Dirty Pool. Not only am I in awe of Michel, but Bethany-Kris is brilliant. No matter how many stories, people, or situations Kris creates for us... everyone is unique and beautiful. Bethany-Kris is the queen of organized crime! It's a serious talent! Mix that with Kris's serious talent for story development and the organized crime situations and she creates these unstoppable stories.

I loved Gabbie. She's a fascinating character... she's always bent to her father's will, succumbed to what he wanted or what he said. But with Michel, she finds her voice, her inner strength. Kris is excellent in showing the wonderful attributes of her couples. How they work better together than they ever could separately. Both, Michel and Gabbie are energetic and lively separate but when you put them together they are just magnificent! I loved how instantaneous their attraction was... how hot their love was. I enjoyed how when they feel, they feel hard and fast. They both knew what they wanted and went for it. Who doesn't respect that?!?

Dirty Pool is a bit of a different read than most of Bethany-Kris's books... we don't have a ton on mystery and high tension with high stakes. It's more character development and fantastic story development. Either way, Dirty Pool has Kris's signature writing and I cant help but love every word she writes. Everything about these characters and their love is through the roof with heat and passion.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

SYNOPSIS

To get what he wants, he’ll have to play a game of dirty pool.
Michel Marcello never wanted to be a mafioso like every other man in his family—he wanted to be more. That doesn’t mean he’s unfamiliar with the life, or that he can’t hold his own against other made men.
They forgot where he came from …
His chance encounter with the fiery and beautiful daughter of Detroit’s most notorious Irish mob boss stokes flames beyond the ones that ignite between Michel and Gabbie Casey. Rivals shouldn’t mix, but these opposites have never been more attracted, either.
The lines between family loyalty, their duties, and responsibility begin to blur.
Love ruins all.
But these two aren’t the only ones playing this game, and it just became far more dangerous to get out alive.
*
Dirty Pool is a standalone romantic suspense.

Michel never understood a man’s desire, but especially not a man in this life, to allow someone to put them in a chair, tilt them back, and give them the power to kill them with one slice. Because that’s literally all it would take. His father once explained to him that it was all about the trust with one’s barber.
It was an experience.
Yeah, whatever.
He’d shave his own fucking face.
He found Sal first, sure, but the other men in the barber shop were obvious, too. The two men sitting in the waiting area, their backs against the wall—never a window—while they watched the Capo getting shaved in the chair. Michel recognized them, too.
Low fucks, really.
Cole Toscano—one of Sal’s few enforcers that he kept close enough for the guy to make a regular appearance whenever Michel was around. And Brock Tocci, who was nothing more than a foot soldier for the Vannozzos.
The two didn’t even pass Michel a look when he entered. Not that it offended or surprised him any because it didn’t. They didn’t have any control over him being that he worked for Sal directly at the moment, and he didn’t have shit to say to them, either.
Merda,” Sal cussed, finally noticing Michel in the doorway. The Capo’s dark gaze turned on him for a brief second as the razor hovered just below his right ear. Michel thought it was probably the coldest the man had ever looked. He realized then that the friendship he gained with Sal and others really only went as far as Michel’s ability not to cause trouble for them. “Took you long enough to get here, didn’t it?”
“I came straight over,” Michel returned.
Sal scowled, not looking as though he believed that for a second. “Sure, sure. Take a seat, Michel, and we can chat.”
The only available chair was next to the fools in the corner, and Michel was not going to sit beside them like they were familiar in any sort of way. Maybe it was his raising, but he’d never known it to be okay for someone like him, with his last name and standing, to lower himself for the comfort of others.
“I’d rather stand.”
Sal’s gaze narrowed briefly before he muttered, “Your choice.”
Sure.
Then, the man in the chair waved a hand at the man holding the razor to his cheek, his mouth barely moving at all while he spoke. “Meet my father—Senior. Or, that’s what we call him to distinguish as we own the same name.”
Michel nodded at the older man. “Ciao. Nice to meet you.”
Senior arched one, white brow high as he looked Michel over. “I cannot say the same at the moment, Michel Marcello. Hasn’t that father of yours taught you anything yet about the world outside of New York, or did he just plan for you to learn it as you fucked up?”
“Easy, Papa,” Sal said, chuckling. “He’s a young one, isn’t he?”
Michel tried not to be annoyed.
And failed.
“I didn’t realize I was on Irish territory until it was too late last night,” he quickly explained. “And I was only doing what you told me to, Sal. Answer the calls, go to the buyer, and do the drop. That was it.”
Sal grunted under his breath. “Never place blame on someone else when it’s far easier to simply accept what you can change about your own errors.”
Oh, great.
Were they having a whole thing here?
A moment together?
Michel had a man in his life who liked to spout Yoda shit at him like he was supposed to give a damn. His own father. He was far more likely to listen to Dante than Sal, anyway, not that he figured that would be very good to say out loud at the moment.
“I know I fucked up,” Michel said simply.
Senior let the razor glide down the side of Sal’s face, and was the next to speak, saying, “Detroit is not like New York, Michel. There, I doubt you have to consider your actions, or how they will affect other men around you like you will here. I understand that you come from a family and a man where your last name is enough to allow you to sit  at the table with the rest of them, but it will not work that way here. Your father, nor your last name, will keep someone from killing you because you’ve caused us an issue.”
Sal’s finger pointed upward at his father. “What he said.”
“I don’t expect where I come from to do anything for me here,” Michel replied.
Because he really didn’t.
“And I’ll be more careful,” he added.
Sal sighed, and waved a hand, stopping his father from continuing the shave. Senior stepped back from his son, allowing Sal to sit up in the chair. He tugged the towel away from his lower throat, although his face was still only half shaved. He didn’t seem like he gave a damn about it when his gaze landed on Michel again.
“We have had problems with the Casey family for years,” Sal explained, “because those Irish bastards are the stronghold here. We have only recently managed to get to a peaceful place with them, and do understand that we cannot afford to go back to war with them. And we won’t.”
“Not for you, anyway,” the enforcer in the corner muttered.
Sal jerked a thumb in the idiot’s direction. “What he said.”

“Here, duckies!”
Michel’s dark chuckles came close to her ear as his nose grazed the back of her neck. Gabbie had all she could do not to shiver from the feeling of his lips pressing to her skin with featherlight kisses.
“I don’t think they recognize being called duckies,” he murmured.
“Shut up.”
“I’m just saying they don’t speak human, Gabbie.”
She didn’t mind his teasing.
Much.
“Says the man who had a small bag of birdseed in his car because bread is bad for the ducks.”
His hands landed on her waist, and she loved the way his fingers dug into her sides. He squeezed, a silent warning for her to stop the teasing. She heard it loud and clear, not that it made much of a difference. If he could dish it, then the man would learn to take it.
That was Gabbie’s way.
“I told you, I jog here.”
“Yes, with birdseed for the duckies, apparently.”
“Because they quack at me when I pass, and I feel bad for them.”
“Mmhmm. Of course, you do.”
Michel let out a laugh. “You’re impossible.”
Gabbie winked at him over her shoulder as she pulled out a handful of birdseed. Michel wasn’t wrong—bread was terrible for ducks. It got stuck to the roof of their mouths, and if it did get in their bellies, it would swell up to make them think they were full when they weren’t. It was harder for them to digest, too.
She adored he had birdseed in his car to toss to the ducks when he jogged at the park. He wasn’t all bad, despite what people in her family liked to say about the Italians. How could someone be bad if they remembered to feed the ducks when they went jogging?
It was sweet, really.
“You must be getting hungry,” he said.
“A little.”
“You want to go—”
“Not yet.”
She was enjoying this.
The park, peaceful at almost midnight, was dark and quiet. There wasn’t a soul around, and the small pond was rarely ever this empty when she came to see it in the daytime.
“I like that you chose here for a date,” she said.
Michel rested his chin on her shoulder, and wrapped an arm tightly around her middle. “Oh, why is that?”
“Most guys would pick a club, or something. Dinner, and a show. The usual. I like this better. It’s just us, and we can talk.”
“I would have taken you for all that other shit, too, but it’s late.”
It was.
Most restaurants were closed, although she was sure they could find a hole-in-the-wall diner to eat at, if they really wanted to. Not that any of the food would be the kind of stuff she was supposed to eat. Michel probably knew that, too, and took it into consideration without telling her he was doing it.
She appreciated it.
Gabbie grinned. “All of that for a date, too?”
“Yeah, probably not. I wanted to be alone with you … can’t exactly do that when there’s other people around, can I?”

RELEASE DAY: Harbor by Bethany-Kris

HARBOR BY BETHANY-KRIS

Renzo + Lucia, #2

Publication Date: February 4, 2019
Genres: Adult, Romantic Suspense, Organized Crime, Erotic Romance

AVAILABLE NOW!

SYNOPSIS

Lucia Marcello is the good girl—or she used to be. The youngest mafia principessa of her family, she's not the one who falls for the man from the wrong side of the tracks, and she certainly shouldn't have run across the country with him.
She'll leave everything behind for him …
Renzo Zulla is the bad guy—society and life labeled him that way. The only person left to take care of his siblings, he couldn't afford the distraction of falling in love with a rich girl far beyond his league, and he definitely shouldn't have her riding shotgun as he runs for his life.
He doesn't want her anywhere else …
Love keeps them together. Fear keeps them running. Chaos follows them everywhere they go.
How long can they keep moving before someone finally catches up?
The cost of love is always high. Never harbor it blindly.

Note: Harbor is book two in a three-book trilogy following the same couple.

Oh… Emm…. GEEEEE! How am I supposed to live while waiting on book 3?!?! This book WRECKED ME! I can’t even tell you how much I love what Bethany-Kris has been giving us over the last year. These two books have rocked me! I’m going to keep this really brief because the struggle to chat non-stop is real!

Bethany-Kris picks right up where Privilege ends. Lucia and Renzo are on the run and they are hanging on for dear life. So it’s only right that this pair is Ride or Die for each other… with each other. This entire book feels like you’re sitting on the edge or your seat waiting for everything to come crashing down onto them. Harbor is compulsively fast-paced; you feel the threat inside your heart. I was so wrapped up in the love between Renzo and Lucia. Mrs. Kris captivated my entire mind with the suspense and action while adding in that love and romance that she adds to every book with her name on the cover.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

“Are you almost done?” she asked.
“Almost. Diego just about finished?”
Lucia gave the boy a look, and found he was still working on his cheeseburger and had half of his fries left. “Almost, but not really.”
Renzo chuckled as he stood up, and came around the back of their SUV. He moved to the side of Lucia where he could bend down to the ground, put the license plate on, and still keep out of view with her mostly blocking what he was doing. Diego moved to the edge of the hatch, and watched his older brother with a curious eye.
“What are you doing, Ren?” Diego asked.
“Making us harder to find again, that’s all.”
“Oh, okay. Like Hide and Seek?”
Renzo glanced up, and smiled at his brother. “Sure, just like that.”
Seemingly satisfied with his brother’s answer, Diego scooted back inside the hatch and bit into his burger again while scribbling on the notepad with a red pencil crayon. He wasn’t paying Lucia and Renzo any attention, now. Renzo quickly finished up his work of switching the license plates on the vehicles—well, he didn’t put their original stolen plates on the white car. Instead, he tossed it inside the SUV to keep it before coming to stand next to Lucia. That left the white car with no plate but it was unlikely the owner would even notice that until they got off their shift later in the day.
“You sure you don’t want some food?” he asked.
She shook her head. “Not really.”
“We’re not going to stop for a while.”
“I’ll be fine.”
“If you’re—”
“Why did you switch the license plates again?” she asked. “No, sorry … took the license plate from that car and also kept ours.”
“I told Diego why.”
Turning her back to the hatch, Renzo did the same. Lucia lowered her voice as she replied, “Yeah, but maybe I don’t believe that’s why.”
Renzo snuck an arm around her waist, pulled her in close, and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. Murmuring, he admitted, “You’re right. I was thinking it’d be better to switch the plates back to the old one after we cross over into Nebraska.”
“But why—”
“We need more money.”
Lucia stilled. “We have money, Ren.”
“Not enough. Not enough for Vegas.” His hand tightened on her waist, squeezing just hard enough to take her breath away but ground her all over again. Without a word, he tugged her around the SUV where Diego couldn’t see them. Renzo backed Lucia against the SUV, and came close enough that his nose brushed against hers. All she could see was him clouding her vision, and for a moment, the rest of the world just disappeared. She sucked in a quick breath a second before his lips grazed hers. “Vegas is the most expensive place to live—and we have to stay underground, so that’s going to make it worse. We’re gonna need shit, Lucia.”
“I know.”
“Fake IDs. A place to stay. That’s going to eat up a lot of cash all at once right there.”
Would it?
Lucia didn’t know.
“We need to eat, to sleep, to get dressed every day … more. Okay? So let me take care of it. Let me handle getting cash to do something with. You just keep Diego in the car, and keep him down out of sight until I get out of here. Then, we’re on the road again. No looking back, baby, right?”
“No looking back.”
He let her go then only to pull the gun he’d kept tucked in his waistband out of his jeans. Pulling out the mag, he checked the gun, and then quickly tucked it away once more. Passing the fast food restaurant a look, his attention came back to her in a blink. “I’ll hit somewhere as we head out of Nebraska.”
She knew, then.
He was going to rob a place.
