What makes you happy?
That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.
And then, I got in his car.
It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.
We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers.
One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.
Discovering his journal changed everything.
I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.
I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.
Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

About the Author:

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

Oh Kandi, Kandi… you totally wrecked my heart here!! On the Way to You is a beautiful, yet, heart-breaking in its sadness. I’m always beyond thrilled when I see a Kandi Steiner book releasing; however, I have to prepare my heart because she breaks it and puts you through a gamut of emotions! This might be my to Kandi Steiner book ever! It’s amazing in the way Steiner can make me feel a part of her words. Seriously, I lived this book for the two days it took me to read it. I’d sneak in reading at work, take extra time in the bathroom, and even have my Kindle read to me in the car or while cleaning. I was pulled in!

Cooper Owens is amazing! She was so relatable and I could completely see where she’s coming from. I was filled with aw at her determination in life. She wants more for her life that what she’s been living for nearly 20 years in Mobile, AL. She’s worked hard and saved all her dollars from working at a local diner to pay for college and living expenses for college in Seattle. See Cooper has dreams and they don’t include staying in Mobile and living life as she always has. She’s so vibrant and determined! She’s incredibly strong, she’s faced a problem early on that would break so many but not her, no, she has persevered. It’s inspiring! She’s a character that you can’t help but root for! You want the best for Cooper, she deserves it!

One day while working, Cooper meets Emery. Long story (read the book if you want the deets) short, Cooper decides to throw caution to the wind and to head off to her college of choice in a long car ride with a handsome stranger. Emery and Cooper are complete opposites. Cooper’s all sunshine and rainbows, while Emery is dark clouds and deepness… but just like Janet Jackson’s been saying for decades… opposites attract!! Cooper’s fighting some major attraction and I totally felt myself falling too on their good days. But other days, Emery totally crawled up into that deep darkness inside himself. This book played with some serious issues like depression. It’s a severe struggle and this book really displayed is perfectly! I love the literally and metaphorical journey Cooper and Emery are both on of self-discovery and self-reflection… plus they learn so much about themselves and each other as the miles rack up behind them.

Steiner’s flawless writing is incomparable! She has left an inexpungible mark on my heart with her beautiful words! The characters are incredible and their flaws, which to most might make them seem imperfect, only helped to make them even more relatable and further endeared them to me. I am completely in awe of the beauty of this storyline. My heart ran a gamut of emotions while reading and I can tell you it is seriously unputdownable. If you enjoy having your heart ripped out and spilled onto the floor in front of you… I could NOT recommend this book enough!! I’m kidding, a bit, while Kandi does hurt your heart a bit, she always fixes those owies like a good momma!! Read this book, feel yourself fall for her perfectly imperfect characters that are so incredibly awe-inspiring!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
