As Detective Kay Hunter’s 8^th book, Cradle to Grave was definitely a good police procedural story. I enjoy getting to meet up with all these characters again and again. DI Hunter is crazy sharp and really smart. I really enjoy this character. She’s strong and patient. She puts things together that I don’t quite see until she lays them out. The story comes together as a dead uncle, a possibly kidnapping or drowned child, and a father on a business trip that seems to be missing in action. Now the story wasn’t as fast- paced as I like her books to be or as they normally are. I was a bit bummed about that but that was my only let down.

The narration is always one of my favorite things about the books. Alison Campbell is a fantastic narrator. She’s able to portray the characters superbly. I love her accent and just the way she speaks. I do wish the narration portrayed the feelings of the story a bit more. If it’s fast-paced and crazy, the narration and feelings should match the book.
