BLOG TOUR:

Rifts and Refrains by Devney Perry is now live!

From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note's infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band's chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it's to her pulse.

Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops.

When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she's paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn't able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future.
If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains.

I knew going in that Rifts & Refrains was the second book in a related trilogy. The trio of books cover the three bandmates. I did not read Lies & Lullabies before reading this book. I obviously have read some of the things that happened in the first book, not a lot though honestly, but now I want to read both the first and third book more than anything after getting some brief snippets. But, just an FYI I didn't feel like I missed anything starting at the second book (besides Jonas' story obviously). Quinn's story was fully covered in between these covers.

I didn't quite expect Rifts & Refrains to be so emotional... I should have. This is Devney Perry writing the story after all. Since it is a Devney Perry novel, I didn't read the synopsis, I just knew I'd read the story because of how I adore the author's writing. I was crying by the end of Chapter 8. No joke. Griffin and Quinn have a story that is irresistible. They have a direct and intense pull toward each other, no matter how hard they try and resist.

However, this small town, second chance rockstar romance really had something that others don't have... a family rift that stretches nearly a decade. An argument that hinges on family values and accepting each other as we are. Sometimes silence is way louder than words and hurts more. Devney Perry may have missed her calling in the rockstar romance category... she created such an intense story ripe with emotion and bleeding with heartache. Perry also brought this drummer to life... giving her a chip on her shoulder, an attitude as big as Texas and a heart as gold as her sticks. Loved every word that brought a tear, a smile, or a swoon. Perry rocked this story! I wouldn't mind more rockstars from her!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Excerpt

She took one step before stopping. A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth, the same corner I’d kissed earlier, and I fought the urge to stand and capture that mouth again. Her smile broadened, though there was pain in her eyes.

“Colin is a cool kid. You’re a good dad, Graham. I always knew you would be.”

She might as well have stabbed me in the chest.

“Thanks,” I said, watching as she walked away.

Fuck me.

When had I never loved that woman?

Maybe that kiss had woken me up. Maybe it had made me realize how goddamn lonely I’d been without her. I had Colin, but there was a corner of my heart that would always belong to Quinn.

I should have followed her nine years ago.

Because now it was too late.
