I went
into Catch Me When I Fall knowing only that is was written by A.L. Jackson. Really
there isn’t much else I need to know because I haven’t read a book yet by Mrs.
Jackson that hasn’t swallowed me whole! Catch Me When I Fall was no different.
I thoroughly enjoyed spending my weekend with an up-and-coming country band
with four close friends. I enjoyed the charisma between the characters. The
insta-lust between Royce and Emily felt too natural… in an immediate way! I
found Royce to be super sweet in his own rights. It’s obvious right off the bat
that Emily has secrets and they are going to be painful. But Royce is not going
to be an innocent in this story… oh no, the boy has got his own secrets and
they are some doozies!
For the most part they were sweet and understanding. However, there are
secrets. The secrets are causing Emily some serious distress. Royce was there
beside Emily and helping her cope while none of the secrets were exposed for us
readers/listeners. Royce was a powerful force though and I can definitely
understand why Emily was so drawn to him. However, if I had to pull out one
section I didn’t get into is the parts where problems are discussed super
vaguely. It drove me batty. I get the reasoning… the great reveal. But getting
little snippets here and there drove me to listen more, to listen harder for
any juicy tidbit that could unravel it all!
Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke were off the charts with this one! It’s a story
so packed with emotions. Emotions they had me feeling with their portrayal.
Seriously, I get chills when narrators are able to pull of such strong emotions
with only their voices… their tones and infliction pulling such feelings from
my heart. Jason Clarke is this deep and definitely manly voice. He captivates
you with just a single utterance. Mixing him with Virginia Rose is pure eargasm
material. It’s the play of soft and hard, heavy and light that brings the
feeling of comfort so easily.
