Blurb:

It started with a lie. A night of blurred lines between a teacher and a student.

I wasn’t her student, yet it was the single most defining night of my life.

I’ve never been the man she thinks I am.

Most people have no idea about the life I’ve lived or the words that ring true when it comes to me—still waters run deep.

But you’d be hard-pressed to find a coed on the TGU campus who knows otherwise…because I’ve never corrected them.

The clock is ticking down, it’s Fourth and Inches with the ball inside the one-yard line and the focus is on me, The Guy on the Left. I’ve never felt like a football god, inside I’m…just Troy.

It’s time to set the record straight.

For my son, I‘ll find the strength.

In her eyes, I’m determined to gain redemption.

I will have them both, even if I have to take my eye off the ball.

*The Guy on the Left is a stand alone novel in the Underdogs Series. This is Troy's story.

Who knew Troy was going to offer us up such a story?! Poor guy just got in his own way! But I totally fell for him when he was on a mission to fix his mistakes, to get Dante and Clarissa where they belong... with him. I was way beyond in love with Troy when he tried to prove himself not only to Clarissa but to Dante as well. I really just adore this group of characters. I couldn't get enough of the main characters but the secondary characters as well.

There are a handful of authors I just read... title, blurb, cover, everything else be damned. I go in cold Turkey knowing whatever those chosen few authors have given me, I am going to love. Kate Stewart is one of these authors. I dig everything about her writing! It might have been the cover but I didn't expect so much... emotion from this book. But that is just what Miss Stewart piled on in The Guy on the Left... heart-tugging, angsty emotions.
I was really thrilled with Kate's writing. She started the story out with a bomb and I felt like I was running through an open field with explosions going off all around me. It was an emotionally thrilling read... does that make sense?

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Excerpt:

“TROY!”
I close my eyes and scrub my face with my hand as Theo chuckles from where he sits on the couch.
“Bet you’re wishing you didn’t offer your child sitting services up so fast.”
“How much shit can a five-year old have inside of them?” Grumbling, I take the steps back up to the bathroom and double tap on the door. “Sup, little man?”
“I pooped again.”
“Good on ya.”
“I need you to wipe me.”
“What? You’re old enough to wipe yourself. You did the last time, right?”
“Mommy says I don’t do a good enough job when I have flare-ups.”
“And I say you can do this, bud. And you might want to mention you’re allergic to cheese next time I tell you there is going to be cheese in your food.”
“I need a wet wipe, not a lecture.”
I glance at the ceiling. I’m officially my son’s bitch.

Excerpt #2

I march my geriatric ass to the door and open it to see Troy fresh-faced, looking like a million bucks, even at the early hour. Due to the natural wave in my hair, and the fact I haven’t showered to tame it, I look freshly electrocuted.
“Troy,” I say by way of greeting. My mood rapidly souring.
“What’s with all the yelling?”
“What?”
“I heard you two going at it.”
“Oh, yeah, that.” Mom of the year, right here. “Dante and I were just discussing age.”
“Is that Troy?” Dante calls from his room.
“Yes, eat your breakfast!” I yell back.
“Well, tell him to come back here!”
“Eat your breakfast!”
“You two need an intercom,” Troy chuckles deeply, and I ignore the draw of the sound.
“He needs a muzzle. He’s far too observant, and outspoken.”
My son refuses to be left out of the conversation from his bedroom. “Troy, did you know Mommy is five times as old as I am today?”
Troy winces. “Ah, I can see why that didn’t go over well.”
“She’s too old to be a suppled coed!”
Troy crosses his arms. “What exactly were you two discussing?”
“She’s too old for you!” Dante supplies, humiliating me. “So, you can’t be her boyfriend!”
Briefly, just briefly, I imagine using Dante’s pillow to silence him.
