So I’ll
be completely honest, I saw that one of my absolute favorite authors, K. Larson
was joining forces with the dark author Yolanda Olsen, I was in. It didn’t
matter if they were writing about their grocery shopping trip together… I
wanted to read about it. Imagine my surprise when I started reading and found I
had a darkly delicious MM romance. This is not a genre a venture into often… like
this might be my second MM romance… ever… sshhh don’t tell anyone! It isn’t
that I don’t like MM books, it’s just I like to read books I can relate to or
that take me to like-minded places and people. This is NOT that book! However,
it’s not a soft and weak book but it’s so good to push my boundaries once and a
while. Abattoir does not just push my boundaries; it bursts out with a blazing
flame (in a serious good way)!
I
read this entire book in one single setting. There were times I’m not sure if I
was in shock or gleefully loved this depraved book just on the basis that it
was so completely different… so different. Larson and Olsen were amazing
together. Their writing seemed to slow so very well together. It was incredible…
the way they seemed to have worked together. Now, I know Olsen is kind of a
horror-type writer and Larsen does write some mind-benders but man, oh man, I
did not see this book coming! It was definitely more on the horror side than
anything else. Jos and Bishop are two fascinating men.
I
would just warn… know this book is very dark. It really should be only for the
brave. Only for the ones that like dark books that push all sorts of
boundaries.
