RELEASE DAY: Malice by Jennifer Jaynes

Malice by Jennifer Jaynes

The perfect life becomes the perfect nightmare in a twisting novel of psychological suspense from #1 USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Jaynes…

Dr. Daniel Winters is living a fairy-tale life. He has a beachfront home in Malibu, a career as a respected pediatrician at a thriving Los Angeles practice, and a gorgeous new wife, Mia. For a man whose past was rife with mental illness, addiction, and thoughts of suicide, it seems too good to be true.

Then Daniel learns that a fellow pediatrician and his family were found slaughtered in their home. It’s just the first chip in the facade of Daniel’s perfect life. Little by little, everything starts to fall away. At work, his career becomes at risk when he’s asked to remain silent about a dangerous new drug. At home, Mia has gone from an affectionate newlywed to a mysterious woman carefully hiding secrets—and possibly a lover.
Then, another doctor is found dead, and as Mia’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious, Daniel begins to wonder: Is paranoia getting the best of him…or has his fairy-tale life become a nightmare worse than he could have ever imagined?

There hasn’t been a book that Jennifer Jaynes has written thus far that hasn’t kept me up late into the night feverishly reading every word! Malice was no different! It consumed me from the very first word to the very last word. Now, Malice is different from Ms. Jaynes’ other books. Up until Malice, they have been incredibly suspenseful thrillers. Malice is more of a psychological thriller. It gets your mind working and wondering!

I found the characters and situations so relatable, so realistic. I think it really plays on a societal fear, a Big Brother kind of thing. I’ve actually struggled with the vaccination question when my daughter was younger so I felt like I understood the dilemma and ethics on a personal level. I also think the storyline is an interesting concept outside of being a parent.

The characters were among my favorite sections in the book. Rachel was so relatable. I understood her plight. Daniel was good. I loved how he wanted so badly to do what was right and not just what he was told. Billy wasn’t the most believable. I liked his PI type of feel.

So many things in life could be avoided if people were just honest. If Mia had been honest with Daniel, so much of this wouldn’t have happened. Ms. Jaynes is so descriptive that you can see the story developing. Like Andy’s run was fantastic. You can feel the crisp air and the thud of his feet as they hit the pavement.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

I’m a novelist, wife and mommy to five-year-old twin boys. While earning my bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences at Old Dominion University and a certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I did a little bit of everything to pay the bills.

I’ve been a gas station attendant, waitress, dancing waitress, beer girl, shot girl, bartender, closing coordinator, executive assistant, medical assistant, EMT, content manager, webmaster, news publisher, editor, copywriter, weight loss coach and publishing consultant.

Through it all, though, what I really wanted to be was a novelist. It’s been a very long, and sometimes difficult road, but in 2011, I finally began living my dream with the release of my debut thriller, NEVER SMILE AT STRANGERS.

To date, NEVER SMILE AT STRANGERS  has earned a place on the USA Today Bestseller’s list, the #1 spot (across all categories) on Amazon.com, the #1 spot (across all categories) in the Barnes & Noble’s Nook Store, the #1 spot in several mystery subcategories—and has appeared in the Kindle Store’s Top 100 list in several countries, including the UK, Canada, Australia and Brazil.

In 2014, Thomas & Mercer acquired the rights to NEVER SMILE AT STRANGERS and re-released it in January 2015. They also bought the rights to my second novel, UGLY YOUNG THING, which released in March 2015. Ugly Young Thing has seen similar International success, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Thomas & Mercer bought the rights to two new novels of mine in 2015—the third in the Strangers series, DON’T SAY A WORD, which will release on May 3, 2016 as well as a standalone thriller called THE STRANGER INSIDE, releasing in May 2017.
